New Southbound Market One-on-One Employment Meeting Comes to a Successful End

The Bureau of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) and Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) co-hosted the New Southbound Market One-on-One Employment Meeting to further develop the New Southbound market for Taiwan’s enterprises. SIT (Study in Taiwan) Database, established by the Ministry of Education was invited to be the co-organizer for this event. Since May 2019, three events have been held in Kaohsiung, Taipei, and Taichung.

In the first meeting in Kaohsiung on May 21, with 29 companies in attendance, there were 208 employment discussions and 123 potential matchings. The Taipei event held at TICC (Taipei International Convention Center) on June 6 has attracted 48 enterprises to participate in including well-known ones such as the NICE Group, China Petrochemical Development Corporation, Liteon and Hua Nan Commercial Bank. The event is open to Taiwanese enterprises at home and abroad.

Lin Fang-Miao, the Deputy Secretary-General of TAITRA said it received a lot of feedback from the enterprises that they have difficulty finding talents for business expansion in Southbound markets or working overseas. To enhance the service, TAITRA held one-on-one employment meeting for the New Southbound market, open to all industries and talents with different nationalities. The event had attracted a great number of overseas compatriots, second generation of new immigrants and local job seekers with language skills and interests in working overseas.

Ni Ke-Hao, Chief Secretary of the Bureau of Foreign Trade, MOEA pointed out that the New Southbound Policy has four foundations, namely economic and trade cooperation, talent exchange, resource sharing, and regional linkage. The adoption of a people-oriented approach for bilateral exchanges is the core of the policy. Based on the principle, the employment meeting aims to help enterprises develop business and promote bilateral talent exchanges to create a win-win situation.
